"I found no way of making Oophila Minor grow in accelerated tissues: I tried everything:
even curses and prayers and shamanic dances - in vain - I was very sad about it: because I think:
it would certainly prolong our lives with Mowgli - perhaps I could then have a child - but
nothing - this is actually the strongest reason: why our species is just a very interesting: but
hopeless dead end - because the future is you. Sooner or later: and maybe very soon: the earth's
atmosphere will become completelly unbreathable for not green people - the extinction of plants
and animals already exceeded the massiveness of the Permian-Triassic events a few years ago: this
will only get worse. But most people don't seem to understand this - even highly educated
scientists write books about: how dangerous the inplant is - how it will decompose humanity over
time: and turn people into soulless monsters. They accuse us of destroying and plundering
ecosystems: that we steal life from the earth: take it to our diabolical spaceships: and there
we create monsters and diseases from it - you must have met that blunt hatred."
"Yes: I've met it - but I understand - it's the scrupulous discrimination of the different
- it used to enable us to survive. The genies might as well talk something about it."
"It used to enable us to survive: and now it's probably going to kill us." :Mastern said
with a sigh and reaching out briskly for her little orange purse: which she had placed on the
rounded living-room table before. "But of course: Mowgli and I: we have a plan." :she continued
cheerfully: handing Alia an oblong box with translucent pills: each of which was a different
color of the rainbow. "I brought you a present: The Degreener - if you take one pill every night
before bed: in a week you will be a pink-brown Indian princess again - of course - without any
autotrophy-threatening consequences."
Alia silently looked at the colored balls for a while and then said with a smile: "But
it's you sister: you're The Princess Mastern - The clear sea in the middle of the desert - The
bringer of the morning light - the moment I looked into your face: my greenness acquired its true
meaning."
